Who Am I ?

Just finished watching the latest episode of The Big Bang Theory, in which Sheldon and Penny got closer to each other by doing a psychology test together. I really agree that we can know better about other people and ourselves with right questions. So today I am going to take the THE FASCINATION ADVANTAGE ASSESSMENT to take a look at how the world sees me.

Before the Test

I checked out how it works through its website and figured that my Primary and Secondary Advantages should be Mystique and Trust. Mystique because I am rather introverted and not quite eager to socialize, and Trust as my friends and family keep telling me that I am a steady and calm person. And I think my Dormant Advantage would be Power for my lack of leadership and communicating skills. On the other hand, I consider myself as subtle, trustworthy, rational, optimistic and efficient. Or you can also say I am shy, boring, passive and lack of EQ. It’s all me, depends on how you take it.

Many people including me agree that my personality would be best to be a scientist. And my parents strongly expressed their wish for me to go for a PhD. Sadly I don’t have enough interest in the academic field, so I decided to challenge myself in the business world. I keep trying to be a better self and I am looking forward to my future.

I have done the Myers-Briggs® assessment before and turned out to be an INTJ. Let’s see how this one goes.

During the Test

All my life I have been taught to be moderate. Therefore, it’s hard for me to give the highest or lowest score to anything, which I think is radical. Here’s my choices to each question. I am earnest enough to analyze every one of them.

1. I am accommodating and not so assertive. In most occasions, I tend to agree others.

2. I would love to be a fun person, but reality is cruel……

3. I try to be discreet, so I only say things that are asked.

4. I like to be clear about everything, but sometimes not when it’s familiar or urgent.

5. Similar to Question 3, normally I am careful on giving comments.

6. Of course I prefer making my own decisions, but it’s also necessary to consider others’ advice.

7. Many people say that I am sedate and reliable since I was a kid.

8. I am a perfectionist on my own work, but would take it easy on others’.

9. I try to treat everyone in the same way.

10. I hate to admit that I could be lazy and often do my homework on the last day……

11. I am not so comfortable telling others what to do, maybe not a leader type.

12. Similar to Question 11, I like to be equal.

13. I have good ideas sometimes, but I am more a doer.

14. On the contrary, I believe it’s important to have independent and critical thinking.

15. Similar to Question 8, I am not very sensitive.

16. Similar to Question 3, I am kind of private but would love to share if asked.

17. Routine makes life easier but could be boring. I am excited about experiencing new stuff.

18. Similar to Question 11.

19. I feel good when telling my story.

20. Similar to Question 3. I know I am different, but don’t have much motivation to show out.

21. when it comes to crucial works, I am a little bit risk-averse.

22.  Not a person who hugs everyone when first met.

23. Similar to Question 3, I don’t think I am a talker.

24. I am very optimistic and tend not to let bad results crash me.

25. I feel OK to face uncertainty.

26. I think most people feels great being top of the class.

27. Similar to Question 2.

28. A lot of people can be reliable, but unique means one of a kind and hard to replace.

After the Test

I think I know myself well, but still feel happy to see the result of the test matches my expectation. It’s similar with how I see myself, proving that my view of Beiping Tian is mainly correct. Yet calling me an owl is flattering. I hope I got half the size of an owl’s eyes. I am surprised to notice that it describes me as observant though. I won’t call me that because I don’t have sharp eyes and can’t see through problems right away. But I usually come up with an appropriate solution after thorough consideration. That’s what I am good at, while the test reinforce my resolution on being more active to promote myself. After all, the analysis it presents is very practical. I believe it will help my later career if I emphasize my strength and make up my weakness.

Big thanks to HowtoFascinate. The questions are deep and the report is clear as well as useful. Hope you have known more about me. Thank you for reading and see you next week!

Happy Chinese New Year!

Happy Chinese New Year

Happy Chinese New Year

This is the first time for me to celebrate Chinese New Year abroad. If I didn’t come to the United States, I must be setting off fireworks in front my grandparents’ house by now. But here in New York, away from my family, I could still celebrate the festival by spending the day with my friends. Besides, the China Consulate put on an awesome firework show over the Hudson River on Tuesday, did you guys watch that?

Apart from those, there is always a must-see on Chinese New Year’s Eve. For more than 30 years, the annual Chinese New Year Gala hosted by China Central Television (CCTV) has become a ritual of Chinese people. It has become a tradition, not only a show for many of us. I watch it every year. And this year, my mom called me 6:30 in the morning just to tell me that the Gala was about to begin…… Well, unfortunately the quality of the Gala is getting worse and worse. And as people are having more and more choices of entertaining, the audience rating of the Gala keeps dropping. But it still attracted 700 million people this year with an average of 155 minutes per person, not including 20 million views online for people like me.

the Chinese New Year Gala

This year’s Gala is a little bit different. We had something more to do other than watching. If you are in China, you can see people kept shaking their phones up and down. Did everyone get crazy? Not really, it’s for a campaign launched by the Gala and Wechat. Wechat is a social app published in 2011. Now almost every Chinese is using it. In this year’s Gala, Wechat is giving away a huge red envelope of 500 million Yuan to its users. Red envelopes are what Chinese people give to each other, with money in it, to express our thanks to friends and family. You just need to open the app, shake the phone and you can get a few bucks if you are lucky. More than 11 billion shakes has been made at the end of the Gala. I participated several times too, but wasn’t lucky enough.

What’s more, besides video talk and send texts, you can now give red envelopes to your friends on Wechat. With this new function, people spread red envelope all over Wechat and it has become a new way of doing it. I have been receiving red envelopes from my family, as well as classmates who I haven’t seen in years, even I’m thousands of miles away from them. You can also put a red envelope into a  group talk and everyone in the group can click it, but only the first few get the money. It has been proven successfully engaging and dominates the Internet. Hundreds of millions of people are talking about this, and my phone keep beeping for days because people are giving out and rushing for red envelopes.

Wechat is already ruling the Chinese social media market. Nowadays when I meet a Chinese I don’t know, we exchange Wechat accounts instead of phone numbers. But it needs improvements too. You can hardly make new friends. On Facebook, you can search for schoolmates or anyone you don’t know but has a connection to you, but it’s not possible on Wechat. Also, it’s not trying hard enough to go global. Although it has over 100 million users out of China, they are mostly overseas Chinese and their friends.

But still, they did a good job on the red envelope design. That’s what fascinates me the most this week and thank you for reading. And don’t forget to give red envelopes to me!

Welcome to Beiping !

Hello World!

Welcome to Beiping! Haha, making fun of my name once again. I am Beiping Tian, spending most of my life in the great city of Beijing before I flew all the way to another legendary city 8,000 miles away, wait for it, NEW YORK! They are different in many ways, but both of them fascinate me. Actually Beiping used to be the name of Beijing, and my parents name me that for I’m the first in my family to be born in the capital of China. So welcome to Beijing too, and when you do take a trip, do not forget to contact me and I will make sure you get a journey you won’t forget ~~

I fell excited yet nervous experiencing all the new stuff happening here. And this time , it’s called “starting your own blog”! This is truly a challenge for me considering the fact that I’m not very active on social media, not to mention I have never written a blog before. But changing can be good, and I’d like to embrace this brand new part of my life. It can be a little bit annoying for me though, being a perfectionist and all. Choosing a comfortable platform, background, font and so on is painful due to the my continuous hesitation when making decisions. Haha, what can you do with Libra.

In this blog, I will post something that interests me every week from now on. Most of them would be in digital marketing area which I am curious about. Social media, big data, content marketing…… Hopefully we will discuss all these crucial factors of today’s business world. I will try to express my opinion from my point of view here and I hope you will like it.

Thanks for reading and see you later!
